The Winding Road, Fence, NH, Hiking, Trail, Sabbaday Falls

Here is a photo of a hiking path in the White Mountains of NH. This trail leads to Sabbaday Falls.  I will maybe post a photo of the falls later in the week.

Mount Chocorua, Lake, Mountain, Boat, Fence, Trees

Mount Chocorua, Lake, Mountain, Boat

“May the Great Spirit curse you when he speaks in the clouds and his words are fire! Lightning blast your crops! Wind and fire destroy your homes! The Evil One breathe death on your cattle! Panthers howl and wolves fatten on your bones!”

That is the alleged curse of an indian named Chocorua who the legend says died on this mountain that was then named after him.  Its kinda cool that this mountain is one of the only bald ones in the White Mountains and sort of fits with the legend of the curse! If you want to know more about the legend of Chocrua check it out on Wikipedia.

Anyways these are two photos of the mountain I took last weekend. The lake in the front is Chocorua Lake. I always loved this mountain as it really stands out from the other mountains in the area with its rocky and bald summit.  Someday I want to hike up it!

Chocorua’s Curse

Tracks to the Clouds,Black and White,Mountain

I posted this photo a few months back in color but was playing around with it today and decided to convert it to b&w to see what it would look like. Here is the result.

Choppy Waters, Lake, Pole, Mountains, lake winnipesaukee

Here is a photo I took a couple of months ago while on vacation at Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. It was kind of a choppy day on the lake that day.

Mount Washington Boat, Island, Lake, lake winnipesaukee

I got this vantage point of Lake Winnipesaukee from a scenic overlook on the side of the highway. I have posted a photo of this island before but on this particular day I was lucky as the famous Mount Washington boat happened to be passing right as I was taking the photo.  I thought it was cool that the island was smaller then the boat!

Wood knot, Lake, Lake, lake winnipesaukee, NH

This is a shot I took while on vacation on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH.

Purple Flowers, Lake, Mountains, Lake, Lake Winnisquam

These purple flowers have a great front row view of Lake Winnisquam where they can enjoy the action on the lake like the Jet Ski in the background.

mount chocorua, NH, chocorua Lake

The towering mountain with the bald peak is Mount Chocorua. It is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the White Mountains of NH and has an elevation of about 3,500 feet. The lake in front of it is aptly named Chocorua Lake.

Mountains, Train tracks, Wilderness, Train, Pentax K10d

As I was driving by these train tracks I noticed the mountain far off in the distance and looked for the nearest place to turn around because it looked like it would be a nice photo. I am pretty happy with it overall and I think it was worth stopping to get it.

Tree, Mountain, Lake

I took this photo from that same overlook that I took the photo of the Castle in the Clouds that I posted earlier in the week.

Covered Bridge, NH, Pentax, White Mountains

This shot is of an old covered bridge originally built in 1858 that is located in the White Mountain National Forest in NH. I decided to go sort of underneath it to get a different vantage point then just taking a photo of it straight on.

Castle in the Clouds, Lake Winnipesaukee, mountain

Here is a shot of the “Castle in the Clouds” that overlooks Lake Winnipesaukee. I hiked up another trail on the property that is above the castle to get this vantage point.

Wolfeboro NH, Harbor, Docks, Boats, Fireboat

I am finally back and posting new photos again. I spent the last week on vacation in Wolfeboro NH on Lake Winnipesaukee and took a ton of photos of the area. Here is a shot of the docks right behind the center of town.

Anyways Sorry I have not posted in so long but I am back now!

Hiking, Trail, Wild Cat Mountain, Appalachian trail

Here is a shot from a couple of years ago on Wild Cat mountain in NH. This hiking trail is part of the famous Appalachian trail that goes through 14 states from Maine all the way to Georgia.

Train Tracks, BW, NH

I forget exactly where this was taken but I know it was somewhere in the mountains of NH.  I was hiking and the trail crossed an active train track that goes through the woods.

West Rattlesnake Mountain, Summit, Squam Lake

Here is a photo I took last summer from the summit of West Rattlesnake Mountain in NH. The lake the summit is overlooking is Squam Lake.  Oh and no I didn’t see any Rattlesnakes :)

Wildcat Mountain, Summit, Mountains, NH

I took the ski lift up to the summit of Wildcat mountain a couple of years ago and here is the beautiful view from the top. It was kind of a hazy day but I found converting the image to black and white actually helped to show more of the surrounding mountains then the color version did. Be sure to click on this image to make it larger because it is kind of small on the page so it would fit.

Mountain, Reflection, Lake

I took this photo the same day I took this other slightly more original reflection shot that I posted a couple of weeks ago. Still I am very happy with this one as well even though it may be slightly cliched.

Lonely, Tree, Lake Winnipesaukee, BW Photography

This tree was alone and above all the others overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. I really like how the black and white conversion came out on this one.

Reflection, Fence, Mountain, Lake

I took this shot when I was on vacation in New Hampshire. The lake was like glass and was casting a perfect reflection of the mountain. I tried to spice it up a little so it would not be a typical reflection photo by framing the picture in a fence that I found along an old dirt road in front of the lake. So I ended up getting two reflections the two fence posts and the mountain reflecting in the lake.

cloudy, lake winnipesaukee, mountains, lake

It was a very quite summer day on Lake Winnipesaukee when this photo was taken. As you can see there is not one boat in sight. The boaters must have seen the clouds coming over the mountains and known a storm was likely on the way! I converted this to black and white because I think it helps highlight the dramatic cloud cover over the mountains better. What do you think?

winter, vermont, corn, harvest, mountains, snow, farm

Here is a photo I took in Vermont a couple of winters back. I like how the foreground is flat farmland and in the background there are huge mountains. The corn stalks add a little color to the white snowy field.

Mount Washington Cog Railroad train

This is a picture I took a couple of years ago on the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. It is the famous cog railroad that takes you to the top of the mountain. The color really pops on this one and I like how the action of the smoke pouring out of the chimney and the water pouring onto the track is frozen in time. I was really lucky to get this shot as I was on a different train going down the mountain and I had to take this picture out of the window. Came out pretty good considering imo!
