I wanted to show this angle of the Nubble Lighthouse so that the white trolley system to the left could be more easily seen. This trolley was used to transport supplies and food to the Light Keepers who lived on the island. One interesting story I read about online told how one of the Light Keepers from the 1960’s used to put his children in this basket everyday to ferry them across the ocean for school. When a photo appeared of one of the children in the basket suspended over the water in the local newspaper the district commander decided to ban families with school age children from living on the island. If your interested in reading a lot more history about the Nubble lighthouse and want to see the famous photo from the 1960’s of the child in the trolley above the water check out this very informative Light House website.

Excellent phot. Such a lovely composition. The lighthouse is looks so cute :))
woah.. i can’t imagine hanging over those waters first thing in the morning..
this is a nice capture..
Wonderful perspective and story, I can imagine the uproar with children going over in those baskets, off to check the link
I thought that trolley was something for tourists to ride on to visit the island. From the sign and your description I see that’s not the case. What a pity they don’t allow visitors. Such a beautiful place.
Love this shot-great sign and perspective and a really interesting story to go with.
I like this! The photo tells much more of a story than just a pretty lighthouse. Commentary was great, too.
A very beautiful picture, interesting your story about the lighthouse. Excellent work!
What a great place to grow up. I love the story that went with the shot.
What a location. Such a shame that it cannot be visited. Great shot, Andy
Great story, Andy, and the perspective you chose for your photo illustrates it perfectly.
Interesting story, love the colours of the sign, great shot!

Quite an interesting shot. So much shared in one shot. And thanks for sharing interesting information as well.
Great info to go along with a very interesting shot of the place.
A lot of things to see in this photo. Lighthouse, the sign and all that lines…
But i like it a lot.
A fine picture of this picturesque lighthouse and its unique location. The story accompanying was very interesting.
Nice shot but the composition is not easy to read due to the different lines.
Very unique and interesting point of view. I like how the pole bisects the image.
Excellent image with beautiful colouring…
Can you imagine telling your grandchildren about how you went to school like that!
wow, that’s a weathered sign, isn’t it
I’ll say!
The post and its sign in the foreground adds some more nostalgic mood to this beautiful picture.
The story behind it adds so much more to what you are are looking at!
sucks that we can’t go on it, well we have to obey the rules. a very engaging story too! =D
An interesting story of an interesting spot.
like the grat colors and the perfect contrast on this one
WOW! this is a great angle you shot this from that sign really looks rusty
Nice photo, I never knew the history of that trolley… How interesting, thanks for that nugget!
Great shot. But the history and story make it really memorable. And the no trespassing sign is just the cherry on top!!
