Boathouse, Lake, Lake winnipesaukee

The sun was just starting to set last summer on Lake Winnipesaukee when I took this shot of an old boathouse on the lake.

Here are some pansies we have hanging from our back porch. The flowers are so colorful I could not resist taking a photo of them.

Tire, Beach, Ocean, Sand

I was walking on the beach and came upon an odd site. A tire that was in good shape just sticking out of the sand as if it where one of the rocks nearby it. I am not sure how it got there maybe it washed ashore? Strange how it was perfectly standing there though.

Raccon Baby and Mother, tree

Here are a few shots I took today of a Raccoon Family that lives in an old dead tree in my back yard. It is fun to look at them from my back porch with binoculars (who needs the National Geographic Channel!). Sometimes the mother even sits on the branch outside the hole when it gets to hot or she needs a break from the youngsters. So far I have seen three babies that occasionally pop their heads up in the hole. Here are a few of the better ones that I took today. Its pretty hard to get good ones because the leaves constantly blow around and make it hard to focus on the Raccoons. » Continue Reading…

The New England Holocaust Memorial, Boston, MA, Freedom Trail

This very impressive memorial for the holocaust is in Boston near Faneuil Hall on the famous Boston Freedom Trail. I highly recommend you check it out if you are ever in Boston. To learn more about The New England Holocaust Memorial check out the official website.

Playground, empty, reeds, field

This empty playground at the top of a hill/sand dune was overlooking the ocean and it seemed like a strange spot to have a playground. Of course it was the winter when I took this picture so maybe in the summer more people use it but on this day of least it seemed that it may as well have been in the middle of nowhere.

Cotton, Macro, Plant

I am not sure exactly what kind of plant this is but I thought the soft fluffy white stuff at the top looked a bit like cotton candy. Anyone know what kind of plant this is?

Marblehead, MA, Fishing, Lighthouse

Here is a photo I took of Marblehead Harbor in January. On the far right you can see a rather average looking lighthouse that is not very pretty (it looks sort of like an oil well or something) but it gets the job done.

Wildcat Mountain, Summit, Mountains, NH

I took the ski lift up to the summit of Wildcat mountain a couple of years ago and here is the beautiful view from the top. It was kind of a hazy day but I found converting the image to black and white actually helped to show more of the surrounding mountains then the color version did. Be sure to click on this image to make it larger because it is kind of small on the page so it would fit.

Alley, Boston, BW photography

Here is an old alleyway in Boston, MA. I thought it was interesting that it was an entirely brick alleyway with both the ground and the walls made of brick. The graffiti and the dirty ground gave the alley a gritty look that I liked.

Fall, Leaves, Maine, Rowboats

It was a beautiful fall day in Maine when I took this photo. I was taking pictures of the fall foliage when I saw these two rowboats all by themselves in this small bay. It sometimes gets boring just taking pictures of trees in the Fall with nothing in the foreground so this was a bonus finding these rowboats!

Mount Washington Boat, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, Sepia

Here is a photo of the famous MS Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee. If you have ever been to Lake Winnipesaukee in the summer chances are good you have seen this huge boat sometime during your stay. It is very popular with tourists and gives tours of the lake every few hours. I converted this photo to sepia tone and added the noise to give the photo an old time look.

Fowles Soda Shop, City Street, Newburyport

Here is a shot from downtown Newburyport, MA. This old time soda shop / newspaper stand seems to be a relic from the past that has been frozen in time and preserved for today.

Ocean, Weathered House, Reflection, Sony H1

I took this photo of this old and weathered house in Kennebunkport Maine. It must be nice to live literally right on the water like that. It was a very calm and peaceful fall day as you can see by the reflections of the house supports.

Castle, City, Newport, RI, Apartments

This is an interesting shot I took in Newport, RI. There was this old building that looked like a castle and towering over it was a modern day apartment building. You don’t often see two buildings that are so different that close together.

Sailboat, Mast, Sails, Sailer

Here is another shot from my trip to Newport RI last summer. I really like all the natural wood on this sailboat. The boat was almost shining it was so immaculately taken care of.

Solitary, Fisherman, Newport, Ocean, Wave

This photo was taken in Newport, RI last summer. There was a lone fisherman on some rocks with waves crashing all around him. He must have been pretty dedicated because I am sure he got pretty wet as I remember a few of the waves got pretty close to him.

Pirate Ship, Kite, Grass, Clouds, Sky

It was a very rare day in January when I took this photo. It was 75 degrees out and people were out and about enjoying the day. It was almost like a summer day there were so many people walking around enjoying the weather. People were flying kites, walking their dogs and acting like it was the summer. I saw this cool kite someone was flying that looked like a pirate ship and the sky was so blue that it almost looked like the ocean. The way the wind was blowing on the reeds almost makes them look like waves as well.

Flying Pirate Ship

Apple, Tree, BW photography

While hiking last fall I came upon some wild apple trees in the woods. Someone had put this apple on the tree like this and I found it interesting. It almost looked like the tree was holding the apple and offering it to passer byers. I decided to only leave the apple in color since I wanted that to be the focus of the photo.

I was shooting photos around the house the other day and was zoomed way in on this flower with my new Tamron 70-300 lens when I saw a bee starting to buzz around it. I quickly aimed the camera to the flower he was flying towards and ended up getting this shot. It is the first time I have taken a picture of a bee in flight this close before and I like how you can even see the bee’s antennas and wings.

Weeping Cherry Tree Blossom, macro

It was a nice day after work today so I decided to take a few photos around the yard. Its finally starting to feel more like spring here in Massachusetts with the flowers blooming so I thought I would post this photo of a newly blossoming weeping cherry tree.

Glenn Ellis Falls, NH, White Mountain National Forest

I took this shot while on vacation at the White Mountain National Forest in NH. The falls are 64 feet high and the spray is pretty powerful in person. I tried to make the photo a little more unique by including the rock ledge in the foreground. I also have a bunch of photos without the ledge but for some reason I like this one the best. Maybe its because this is the view you get in person when you are first rounding the corner of the trail and see the impressive falls for the first time!
